Video lenses are available with motorized actuation of zoom, focus, and iris. Except for the permanent lenses on some point and shoot cameras, photographic lenses are not usually available with motorized zoom. However, this is just what is needed when, for example, an SLR is mounted on a tall tripod or an aerial camera mount.
In such cases, focus is set to infinity or to "auto" and iris is either fixed or left under camera control. Electronic interfaces are available for remotely controlling these parameters, but typically only the zoom control needs to be custom motorized. Motorization involves fashioning a lens specific motor mount, attaching a gear or traction surface to the zoom lens ring, and selection of motor and drive belt. A zoom in/out rocker switch controls 12Vdc power to the motor. The lens retains all of its manual operation capabilities and is usually not modified in any permanent way.
Lens motorization is performed on a custom basis, but many can be modified for $250. Customer supplies lens. Please consult factory for specific details.
